How to Buy and Use an Audible Gift Card

Audible gift cards are straightforward once you know one thing that trips up almost everyone: they are region-locked. A card bought on one country's Audible store cannot be redeemed on another. That single rule causes most of the failed redemptions people run into.

Two different things you can give

Audible sells gift memberships and Amazon sells gift cards, and they behave differently.

• A gift membership is a fixed term — commonly one, three, six or twelve months — that delivers credits on the usual schedule. The recipient does not need to enter payment details, and it does not roll into a paid subscription when it ends.
• An Amazon gift card is store balance. In regions where Audible bills through Amazon, that balance can pay for a membership or for individual audiobooks. This is often the more flexible gift.

If you are unsure what the recipient wants, balance is the safer choice — it does not commit them to a subscription.

Buying a gift membership

1. Go to Audible's site and find the gift section, usually linked in the footer or the account menu.
2. Choose the term.
3. Enter the recipient's email address, or choose to print or send the details yourself.
4. Set a delivery date if you are buying ahead.
5. Pay, and the recipient receives a redemption link.

Redeeming one

1. Sign in to Audible on the store for the country the gift was bought in.
2. Open the redemption link, or go to the redeem page in your account.
3. Enter the code exactly as given, including any hyphens.
4. Confirm. Credits or the membership term appear on the account immediately.

Check the balance in your account settings afterwards rather than assuming it worked.

When redemption fails

• Wrong regional store. The overwhelmingly common cause. A card bought on the US store will not redeem on the UK one, and vice versa. There is no way to transfer it.
• Already redeemed. Codes are single use. If it was forwarded, someone may have used it.
• Typing errors. Zero and the letter O, one and lowercase L. Copy and paste when you can.
• An existing membership. A gift membership may not stack onto an active paid one; it can queue until the current term ends.

If none of these apply, Audible support can trace a code from the purchase receipt — so keep it.

What happens when a gift membership ends

It stops. Unlike a trial, a gift membership does not roll into a paid subscription automatically, which makes it a genuinely safe gift. Any credits still unspent are subject to the usual expiry rules, so it is worth telling the recipient to use them rather than save them indefinitely.

Books bought with those credits stay in the recipient's library permanently, membership or not.
