How to Check a DoorDash Gift Card Balance

Doordash gift card balance

The short answer: once a DoorDash gift card is redeemed it stops being a card and becomes DoorDash credit on your account. The balance then lives in the app under Account, not on the card. There is no separate card balance to look up afterwards.

That single fact answers most of the confusion around this. Below is where to find the number in each case.

If you have already redeemed it

In the app

  1. Open DoorDash and tap the Account icon.
  2. Tap Gift Cards (some versions show Credits or Account Credits).
  3. Your available balance is shown at the top.

On the website

Sign in at doordash.com, open the menu, and choose Gift Cards or Account Credits.

At checkout

Credit is applied automatically before any card is charged, and the order total shows the amount deducted. If you expected credit and the total has not dropped, the card was never redeemed on that account.

If you have not redeemed it yet

An unredeemed card should still carry its face value — a gift card is not spent until it is applied to an account. To check before committing:

  1. Go to doordash.com/gift-cards and use the balance-check option, where it is offered in your region.
  2. Enter the card number and PIN from the back of the card, or from the email if it was digital.

If the retailer that sold it has its own balance checker, that works too for cards bought in a shop.

Redeeming one

  1. Account → Gift CardsAdd Gift Card.
  2. Enter the code, and the PIN if the card has one.
  3. The value is added to your account balance immediately.

Redeem to the right account. Credit attaches to whichever account is signed in and cannot be moved afterwards. If you have a personal and a work login, check which one you are in before entering the code — this is the single most common way people "lose" a gift card.

Common problems

  • "Invalid gift card code." Check for confused characters — 0 against O, 1 against l, 8 against B. Type it rather than pasting, since copied codes often pick up a trailing space.
  • The balance is lower than expected. Credit is spent automatically on your next order. Check your order history for one where the total was reduced.
  • The credit is not showing. Confirm you are signed into the account you redeemed it on, and that the region matches — a card bought in one country generally cannot be redeemed in another.
  • The card was already redeemed. If you bought it as a gift and someone else applied it, DoorDash cannot reverse it. Contact support with the purchase receipt.
  • Credit did not cover the whole order. Normal. Credit applies first, and the remainder goes to your payment method.

What the credit can and cannot pay for

DoorDash credit covers the order total including fees, taxes and tips in most cases. It generally cannot be used to pay for a DashPass subscription, and it cannot be withdrawn as cash or transferred to another account.

Balances do not usually expire, though the terms printed on the card govern and vary by region.

Avoiding gift card scams

Worth stating plainly, because DoorDash cards are used in this scam constantly: no legitimate organisation asks to be paid in gift cards. Not the tax office, not a utility, not the police, not a company you owe money to, and not a support agent who called you.

If someone has asked you to buy DoorDash cards and read them the numbers, stop and treat it as fraud. Once the code is spoken aloud, the money is gone — and it is gone precisely because gift card codes work for whoever types them first.

FAQs

Can I check the balance without redeeming it?

Yes, using the balance checker with the card number and PIN. Redeeming is what permanently ties it to an account.

Do DoorDash gift cards expire?

Generally no, though the terms on the card apply and differ by country.

Can I combine several cards?

Yes. Each redeemed card adds to the same account balance.

Can I get a refund on a gift card?

Not normally. Unredeemed cards bought in error are handled by the retailer, not DoorDash.

Can I use credit and a card on one order?

Yes. Credit is used first, and anything remaining goes to your payment method.
