How to stay safe on Instagram

 

Nowadays it is difficult to find a person in modern societies without an Instagram account. The fact is that more and more teenagers and adults are sharing their content, which makes maintaining privacy more difficult.

 According to Instagram’s official website, there are several methods for users to improve their privacy and also lower their vulnerability to any insult, hacking, blackmailing, and so on. In this article, we are going to discuss them briefly.

 

#method 1 : Two-Factor Authentication

If you think you are an interesting target for hackers,two factor authentication instagram (2FA) is an obligation for you.

How to do it?
  1. Go to your profile and click on the hamburger icon
  2. Select the “Settings” button
  3. Tap on Security > Two-Factor Authentication > Get Started

 

 

#method 2 : Disable Activity Status

Instagram has a feature allowing people to see when you are actively using the app. This will help you keep your status secret. Turn it off via Settings > Privacy > Activity Status and toggle the option off.

By default, any person can see your posts and pictures and this issue can be very tricky. Making a private account is one of the options. By Settings > Privacy > Account Privacy, you can toggle your account private. When your account is private, you will have to approve new followers before they can see your photos or videos.

If you think someone is bothering you with his/her messages, you can mute it easily. Mute an account from your feed by tapping the three-dot menu () next to the name and choosing Mute. Go to Settings > Privacy > Muted Accounts to manage your mute list.

There is a beautiful option which Instagram allows you to justify if a specific account is real or just a scammer. To do that, just navigate to their profile, click on the three-dot menu, and select About this Account.

 

 

# method 6 : Manage Tagged Photos

Anybody can tag your photos and posts and they can be reviewed by anyone. But fortunately, you are allowed to adjust your settings to approve tagged images before they appear on your profile. To control tags, go to Settings > Privacy > Tags and turn off your intended switch. If you want to remove an individual image, tap the three-dot menu and select Hide Options (for Android) or Photo Options (for iOS). If you want to remove multiple items at once, go to Settings > Privacy > Tags > Hide Photos and Videos and select all the images you would like to be removed.

 

 

#method 7 : Revoke Access to Third-Party Apps

Many apps nowadays are connecting to Instagram accounts for their better function and performance but sometimes we forgot how many apps have been connected to our account. via Settings > Security > Apps and Websites, where you can view active and expired authorized apps, then remove or grant access to the services you want.

 

 

#method 8 : Payment options

Instagram has also a big potential for e-commerce activities. Go to Settings > Payments > Security Pin and turn it on, and you will get an extra layer of security.

 

 

#method 9 : Don’t Get Phished

If you want to differentiate Instagram official emails from fake ones, you can use the “Emails from Instagram” tab. You can access this via Settings > Security. Now you can see Instagram emails within 14 days ago.

 

 

#method 10 : Remove follower

If none of the above methods resolve your problem, it is time to shout the last bullet; removing them. Go to your profile, tap Followers, click on the three-dot menu next to their name and tap Remove.
