Discord IP Resolver: Does It Actually Work?

The short answer: Discord IP resolvers do not work. There is no tool that takes a Discord username or user ID and returns that person’s IP address, because Discord never exposes one. Every message, call and video stream is relayed through Discord’s own servers, so the only IP address any user ever sees is Discord’s.

Every site advertising this capability is doing one of three things: showing you fabricated results to earn ad revenue, collecting your details, or serving malware. There is no fourth category.

Why it is technically impossible

Some applications connect users directly to one another — peer-to-peer — and in those, each side necessarily learns the other’s address. That is how IP-grabbing works on platforms that use it.

Discord does not work that way. Voice and video are relayed through Discord’s voice servers rather than sent peer-to-peer, so in a call your connection goes to Discord and theirs goes to Discord. Neither of you ever receives a packet from the other. There is no address to extract, and no amount of tooling produces information that was never transmitted.

Your Discord user ID is a public identifier, roughly like a username. It is not a network address and does not map to one. Sites promising to “resolve” an ID to an IP are describing a conversion that has no basis.

What the sites actually do

Fabricate a result. Enter any ID, including one you invented, and a plausible-looking IP and city appear after a loading animation. Enter the same ID twice and you often get different answers.
Gate the “result” behind an offer wall. Complete a survey, install an app, or start a trial to see the address. The site earns per completion; nothing is revealed.
Phish your Discord login. Any page asking you to sign in with Discord to look up someone else is taking your account. Discord accounts are stolen and resold in volume, and this is one of the main routes.
Serve malware. A “resolver” that must be downloaded is the oldest version of this, and information-stealing malware is the usual payload.

The one thing that does leak an IP, and it is not Discord

The technique people mistake for a resolver is a logging link. Someone sends a link and persuades the target to click. The link points at a server they control, which records the IP of whatever connects — the same way any web server records its visitors. They then present that as having “resolved” the user.

Note what happened: the target clicked something. Nothing was extracted from Discord, and no Discord vulnerability was involved. This is why the advice below is entirely about links.

These links are disguised as image hosts, game invites, giveaways, verification pages, screenshot links or free-tool offers. The address bar after redirects is the tell.

Protecting yourself

Do not click links from people you do not know, particularly anything urgent, free, or requiring “verification”.
Check where a shortened link goes before opening it, using a link expander.
Use a VPN if you are being targeted. It replaces your visible address with the provider’s, so a logging link records nothing useful.
Turn on two-factor authentication in User Settings → My Account. This is what protects you from the phishing side.
Tighten privacy settings. Under Privacy & Safety, restrict direct messages from server members you have not added.
Block and report. Right-click the user to block; report the account to Discord and, if it is a server, to its moderators.

If someone claims to have your IP

Most of the time it is a bluff, and knowing an IP address is much less powerful than it sounds. It reveals your internet provider and a rough region — often the wrong city entirely — and not your name or your street.

If you are genuinely concerned, restarting your router will get you a new address on most residential connections, or your provider can assign one on request. Persistent threats or harassment should go to Discord’s Trust and Safety team, and to the police if they escalate.

A note on why people look for these

The reason usually given is identifying someone abusive. It is understandable, but it does not work, and it points in the wrong direction — an IP address is not identification, and obtaining one to intimidate someone is itself harassment. Reporting to Discord is unglamorous but it is the route that actually leads anywhere, because Discord holds the account records that an IP address does not give you.
