Mysterious Instagram Glitch Shows Funky Lines on Photos

No, your phone is not broken! On Thursday, strange lines started appearing on some Instagram stories and posts. Posts featured gray or multi-colored lines on the pictures. Location and username tags on Instagram also had unusual formatting and were unreadable in some cases. Some Instagram pictures reposted to Facebook also had the same problem.

We’re aware of this issue and are working to resolve it as quickly as possible,” an Instagram spokesperson told CNN Business. The company later announced the issue began from a bug with photo uploads, but it was fixed. A spokesperson for Facebook said it was no longer detecting any problems on its platform.

It’s not clear how widespread the problem was. Users complained about the issue on Twitter, while others wondered whether it was a new Insta-filter (it’s not guys). According to the website Down Detector, users also reported other problems with Instagram on November 28, including issues with the news feed and platform. Most recently, Facebook experienced problems on three days last week, including log-in issues. Those problems were all resolved, according to Down Detector.
