How to get rid of suggested search on Instagram?

Instagram now is getting complicated compare to a few years ago. The Instagram algorithm is designed to connect more and more Instagram users. And even users outside Instagram like Facebook, friends, or contacts.

How to remove Instagram suggested search?

The only place that you would see the suggested search on Instagram is in the search menu. Under the search menu, few options show the suggested topics by Instagram. These could be the latest issue worldwide or any other crucial issues.

However, there is no place on Instagram setting to stop showing the search suggestion. In recent days, COVID 19 was the suggested search topic on the Instagram app.

To remove the Instagram suggested search:

Open the Instagram app
Login to your account
Tap on the search icon in the home
You should see the suggested search
Tap on multiply icon beside the suggested search
The suggested topic will be removed

As you could see, you should remove the Instagram suggested search manually and one by one. There is still no setting to stop those searches.

If you don’t want to be in others suggested friends list

Go to the Instagram website
Enter the login info
Go to your profile by clicking on your profile picture
Click on Edit Profile
Scroll down to the end of the page
Remove the tick of “Include your account when recommending similar accounts people might want to follow.”

From then now, Instagram won’t show your name on the suggested list when users following Instagram accounts. This action would limit how people would find you. So, if you want no one to see you on Instagram, this can help.

How to stop Instagram friend suggestion?

The only place that Instagram would suggest the name of other users to you is when you follow someone on Instagram. The Instagram algorithm will detect similar accounts or accounts with mutual friends with you. When you are following someone on Instagram, it will show you the related ones.

To get rid of this friend’s suggestion on instgaram, you should close the list by tapping on the icon. As the picture below shows, when you follow someone, there is a list under the following button. Close the button to get rid of the list. Please note that your name also might be one of the suggestions. In the previous section, the method to stop this action was given.
